TO THE FIFTH ANNUAL RITES OF PASSAGE FESTIVAL
We’re back! This year as always, we’re bringing you a massive weekend long celebration of tattoos, art, music and culture.
Hosted at one of Melbourne’s most iconic world heritage buildings, we bring you Rites of Passage 2016 at the Royal Exhibition Building in the majestic Carlton Gardens.
The team at ROP are excited to present to you, the largest celebration of tattoo culture in the southern hemisphere. Sticking to our motto and bringing you an even BIGGER and BETTER celebration, this year we will continue to grow as Australia’s best tattoo culture festival for all our tattooists, patrons and the greater community.
ROP prides itself on the celebration of creativity and connecting different individuals through art. It is with this mentally that the Rites of Passage Festival is an all-inclusive event. And rightly so, as this year we celebrate the neo-traditional art-form of tattooing. In this exploration we recognise the American narrative in restructuring tattoos that were exclusively for the working class, outlaws and misfits to now including people from all walks of life.
Join us on this adventure as we continue to evolve the cultural narrative of tattooing, uniting as a movement and propelling our society forward towards positive change.
The Royal Exhibition Building will be transformed into an array of booths where tattoo artists can showcase their work with easy access to sterile washrooms. The approval of the Melbourne City Council Health Department ensures the highest quality of health and safety for the event.
At last year’s Rites Of Passage, we took you on a journey through Edo Japanese Tattoo Culture, bringing you some of the world’s most renowned artists, including Shige (Shigenori Iwasaki), Nikko Hurtado, Carlos Torres and Paul Booth. This year we are basing our theme on Neo-Traditional Tattooing and its historical influences. Let us extend a very warm welcome and invite you to attend Rites of Passage 2016! Come and be a part of this positive event! We look forward to seeing you all this year at the fifth annual Rites of Passage.
